Miss Smith’s Report

314 days ago, the 2023 learning journey at Yolla District School began for students, families and staff. During this time, we’ve seen students grow, through quality learning programs and extra-curricular opportunities. For your support, perseverance and courage I say thankyou.
Our end of year data shows growth in Reading, which was our priority during the year, with students in Year 6, 9 and 10 recording above 80% growth.
Other data shows that;
- 90% of our students reported that they had good relationships and support from their teachers and
- 90% of students felt connected to adults in their home.
We know that moving forward a priority for 2024 is to look at student attendance, with the number of students attending school 9 out of 10 days dropping to 47% in our Primary years and 52% in our Secondary years. “Every school day matters.”
Thankyou to all the families, community members and staff who helped students celebrate their achievements at our assembly on Tuesday.
Finally, have a safe and magical Summer break with friends and family.

Festive Celebration Day
On Thursday 14 December members of the Student Leadership Council hosted a Festive Celebration morning. This gave students across the school an opportunity to work with a buddy group. Students enjoy these occasions and have lots of fun mixing with other Year levels. Activities included making cylinder crafts, planting succulents, making truffles and making reindeer food. Students also dressed in festive outfits. The SLC would like to take the opportunity to thank students and families for their participation and contribution to events held throughout the year. We wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas.

Festive Celebration Day
Year 6 Activity Day
On Monday 18 December our Year 6 group had their end of year activity day at Camp Clayton in Ulverstone. The group of 11 students went on the bus with Mr Fahy, Mr Lucadou-Wells and bus driver Nikki Baker. All of the kids (and teachers) showed great courage by going on the giant swing, with some even taking it further and going upside down. We enjoyed Domino’s for lunch, before hitting the flying fox in the afternoon. There was also some time for some games of mini-golf, Gaga Ball, beach volleyball and a bounce on the trampoline. Unfortunately, a planned trip to the Berry Patch for ice cream didn’t go ahead (they’re closed on Mondays) but everyone still had an enjoyable day and created some great memories in their final week of primary school. Thank you to the team at Camp Clayton and to Miss Smith for organising the day.

Year 6 Big Day Out
NWHSSA Inter-High Athletics Carnival
On 4December a team of 10 Yolla students travelled to the Penguin Athletics Track to compete in the NWHSSA Inter-High Division B Athletics Carnival. All 10 athletes should be commended on their participation and sportsmanship they displayed while competing. They all represented our school in a magnificent fashion. A couple of highlights for the day was Morgan winning the Year 9 Girls Javelin event and Sarah winning the Year 9 Girls Triple Jump. Overall, Yolla District School came out in 4th position in Division B for 2023, which is a great result.
A big thank you to Linda and Mrs Holland for coming along on the day, driving the bus and officiating the Javelin.

2024 Year 11 Orientation Day
While Year 11 and 12 students of 2023 have already completed their year and are looking forward to receiving their Certificates of Attainment, Year 10 students, including those from Yolla, had a final opportunity to visit Hellyer College for Orientation Day on 30 November. Students followed a timetable that allowed them to go to each of the subjects they have chosen for 2024 as well as enjoying a complimentary BBQ.
Hannah from Parklands High and Manaia from Wynyard High are amongst some of the students planning to undertake Certificate II in Animal Care at Yolla in 2024. They are pictured with our most recent arrivals – one week old guinea pigs.
